Hello All, A family member on my wife’s side recently had an auto accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. He’s 21 and lives with his parents. He goes home in a month or so and their house will need some adaption. They are considering making him a living space with bathroom in the basement , but would like for him to be able to come and go upstairs. He’s a big guy and the chair that attatches to the stairs seems to me to be too difficult. Someone has given them a price of $10,000 to install a vertical lift. I suppose this would be after a space has been framed to their specs. If this is the best we can do, so be it, but I thought maybe someone out there might know of a cheaper alternative. Anyone with any information or experience or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Danny Gray

Believe it or not..... try "good will". My niece of 13 has a problem that has left her without her legs. They live in Minneapolis. While I was there in March, my Sister and I went to good will to find out what they had. The stair chairs that you talked about can work. Good will does not have them but they do get offers from people who are finished with them. What they will do is put you in touch with the donator and let you sort out the details.
Good Luck and best wishes.
There are no stupid questions. Just lots of inquisitive idiots!!!
Look at these people.

They have all varities of equipment. And under wheelchair list they have the Carrier which is a roll on stair lift.
Disclaimer, I several years ago I did design work for the controlls on several units including the Carrier. But I don't even know if they are still using any of those controls or not.
