I built my own roll-up garage door. I got the hardware from a local door installation company. It wasn’t too hard, really, but I did have them install the spring.
I wanted the door to look like a pair of carriage house doors when closed. I found some cool strap hinges on eBay. Also, a handle and an old hasp and padlock.
Here are some pictures:

Nice Job!
very nice indeed. did you design it or did you puchase plans?
I designed it. The frame is just 2" x 2" with 1/2" plywood. 4 sections, with windows in the top. I built it 3 years ago, and it's worked fine ever since.
Here is the whole house, just after the door was hung.
Great Job!
I might borrow the idea.

are the windows on the house all wood? if so did you make them or buy them. are they operable?
I am thinking about making some double hungs and casements for my renovation. don't like vinyl or aluminum and custom mada double hungs are running well in excess of a grand a piece.
Just curious.
Once again, really nice work.
I made the front windows (casement) out of redwood. Real simple, no weatherstripping even. The glass is double-paned custom units. I made the front door (cherry) too. The rest of the windows are Andersen wood casements Series 400. (About $500 each).
Those are some nice doors. Someone else asked, Did you have plans or did you do
that on your own. What kinda of finish did you use?
No plans. Just figured the size. (The original door was wider, but I made this one to the proportions of the "Golden Rectangle") Divided the vertical dimension in 4 and made some 2 x 2 frames, covered them with 1/2" ply. Then I added the 1 x 6 T & G planking and then the trim over that. It's just painted with exterior paint. The redwood around the windows are finished with spar varnish. (The door faces west, and I am 1 mile from the Pacific Ocean).
Thanks for the complements.
Beautiful job on everything you've done!

Nice looking doors, way better than the regular garage door look.

One I made can be seen in the attached photo. It is 6/0 wide, 7/0 high, and is in three sections. Each 3/0-0 wide "panel" is capped with a window with a 2-over-2 true divided lite arrangement.
Making the door was pretty easy as I recall. A day and a half in the shop, and most of a morning to install. The panels are just plywood skins on a 2x3 frame, and the top glazed panel is a heavy sash.
Installation? Hang the tracks, stack and hinge the panels together, then do the spring and operator stuff. I hired a garage door specialist to do that part.
Yeah, like 300 years older.
Hey Andy, how's the house coming along?
Tom,
I kinda didn't wanna post pic but I did anyway in the photo section here.....I think a lot of people won't get whats in my mind when they see all that house wrap (as Bobby Walker said).
Its comin' along really nice........I'm just havin' a big fight with the Historic Society about where my three garage doors are.
Gonna do similar ones as you did but lookin a lot older (natch).
HAve 40 sq of perfections for my roof comin' Tuesday mornin.

Any suggestions in building a 1 piece door. 8'w x 7'h. I don't have room for a sectional door. My F250 is a little to long. Original custom door had a full "picture" window in the center section. Would like to rebuild with some character...
