Handyman thinned latex paint with mineral spirits
Hello,
Just wondering what I can expect now that we’ve realized the handyman. we hired to paint was thinning the Sherwin Williams duration we purchased with mineral spirits. Two weeks later the very edges of the painted area have peeled up, and we’re curious what to expect if anyone has any experience with paint chemistry. Why he did this we have absolutely no idea. Thanks for any insight folks.

Similar- neighbor asked handman to paint his deck. deck boards 1x8, started at edge of house , went under roof overhang for a foot or so, , and went straight out at 90 degrees. Handyman felt the had not enough paint. so he only painted from roof overhang drip line , out to edge of the deck, leaving homeowner to paint and blend in the new paint in the unpainted area next to house.
Wow, not so handy huh?
I'd say you can expect it all to peel off. I'd rent a wallpaper steamer and see if that won't lift the paint so you can do the job properly.
If the edges are any indication, expect the rest of the paint to come off. If this is a deck that was in poor condition it was to be expected either way.
When using a spray gun you can thin paint, but In addition to thinner you must add hardener.
Talk to someone at Sherwin Williams. My local store has been very helpful when dealing with paint issues. What did he paint?
I can't imagine how paint thinner an latex paint would mix well enough for even basic application.
