I have an LVL header to flush-frame floor joists to, and the header is skewed 6.5 degrees from 90. We cannot just toenail the floor joists to it; hangers are required. My supplier went to the hanger folks, and even though the ultimate load is just 250# per joist, the quote is almost 20 bucks per, because they are custom. What would you do here? I have thought of screwing a 2×2 continuous cleat to the header’s bottom face edge, and notching the joists to bear on the cleat, then toenailing above. I have also thought of lagging a 2x2x3/16 angle, continuous along the header bottom, to function as a seat. It would be a lot less $ than the hangers. Give me your thoughts.

You might want to check your code, if that applies here. We just went on the IBC, and apparently (and this is now depending on individual inspectors!) ledgers are out. Seems like too many framers were toe nailing joists that were 1/2" shy of the bands;-)

I am perusing the Simpson Strong-Tie catalog, and now see this: LSSU28. My floor framing is 2x8. The rating on this, from what I see here, is 885#, when used in floorframes, skewed. Why won't this work?
I'm with Bossman, there's no reason I see why those hangers wouldn't work...I'm figurin' it's only about an 1/8" out of square, a dang site better than what cag's parent's got! EliphIno!
I did exactly what Boss Hog and Bucksnort Billy said this past summer, try using regular joist hangers first. Same situation you have and the hangers went in with no problem, just nail the long side in first

Funny you should mention that, My parents had their home inspected yesterday becuae they are moving, and do not want any suprises when the new owner sends an inspector through and their one year warranty is ending soon.

Two thoughts -
First, just use regular joist hangers. They might handle a skew as low as 6.5° without any problems. If they don't fit well, try putting a 1/4" plywood shim behind one side.
Second - Use the LSSU28. No reason they shouldn't work.
BTW - No way custom hangers that small cost almost $20 each. Somebody along the line must have put one hell of a markup on 'em.
