Hi I hope every one is having a good week end
I have a question for any hard wood flooring guys
I have a client with a slab on grade with exsisting cermic tile.
They want to make it hard wood. We are suggesting 3/4 advantec glued to the exsisting then nail down the 3 1/4 hard wood over that.
The other suggestion is 2 layers of 5/8 glued and stapled to each other then the hard wood over that.
If any one has any comments or suggestions please let me know I have done a fair amount of hard wood but all of it has been over wood framing
Thanks

Have you throught about the buildup in heigth. Can you accept that. Don't know what parts of the house that youare talking about.
But you have transistions to other flooring, dishwashers, stairs, and toekicks to be concerned about.
What about an engineered wood floor that is either glued or floating?
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
If the tile is flat it's probably a good place to use Dricore (DriCore?) snap together pannels and nail the flooring directly to 'em. They are not much more than $1.50 a square foot and install insanely quick. Even tile will let a good deal of moisture through and on a slab the vapor barrier built into the dricore pannels would be reasuring.
Beer was created so carpenters wouldn't rule the world.
I used dricore in the basement of my last house under 3/4 hardwood, it was just what I needed. It worked great and the wood stapeled nicely into it. Never had a "damp" problem.
