I have to tile a small bath floor (4 x 7) that has 3 layers of flooring on it now. 2 layers of vinyl sheet over top of 1 layer of linoleum tile. The linoleum is 60’s vintage so it’s probably got asbestos in its make up. I mention this b/c the linoleum seems to be impenetrable. (BTW this is over a concrete base)
I made the cabinet for the sink and I removed the old flooring beneath it in preparation for the new floor. At that point I wasn’t the guy who was to be installing the new tile so the flooring issue wasn’t my concern. Anyway the vinyl where the cabinet was to go came up fairly easily but the linoleum wouldn’t budge. I was using my heat gun on high and it didn’t even make a dent in it.
Like I said I didn’t really care at that point b/c I wasn’t going to be doing the floor.
Now they want me to do the floor so now it’s my problem and I need to come up with a solution.
I was thinking of removing the 2 vinyls and then putting down ¼â€ hardi board fastened down with bugle head blue screws into the cement and then laying the tile over that.
Does this sound like a workable solution? Anyone have any ideas that might work better?

Chipping hammer with a spade bit or a flat bar and a couple of bleeding knuckles.
I'd take it down to the concrete and install the tile over Ditra or another type of isolation membrane.
Hardi Board, hardi board. Enough!
