Hardie Panel/Plank to reduce Noise?
My bedroom and closet cover one end of the house. With two heat pumps outside. The outside wall is covered by 8 inch wood lap siding.
I wondered first if I took the wood off and replaced it with Hardie plank would that reduce the noise,
and then I thought since the hardie is thinner than the wood, I could use hardie panel to cover the studs, then tar paper, then the hardie lap siding, accomplishing two things- another anti noise layer of hardie material plus the thickness would be better, more like the present wood, on the corner boards- anyone have experience here?

There are materials specifically designed to stop noise, such as mass loaded drywall. I'd think one of them would be a better material under the siding than a second layer of Hardie.
try this for $30
set 2 posts say 5-6 ft apart between the units and the house with a routed groove that would accept a panel of hardie (soffit material comes 4x8 sheets... ) if you set them 5' you can get a panel of hardie tile underlayment comes 3'x5' wouldn't look too bad and it'd have free air on both sides... might and might not work... but if done well wouldn't look bad and would be removable... simple test anyway
