I’m installing 8.25″ cement board and wanted opinions on blind nailing. I have had some experience with this product and like it. In the past I was face nailing but would like to hide the nails this time for a cleaner look. My exposure is 7.5″. I have installed the first 2 coarses with 2 3/8 ring shank galv nails. they seem to pin the boards pretty tight, even though there is so much exposure. Just wondering if anyone has some experience with this out there.
Thanks, Chuck

I never blind nail, tho' Hardi's probably the best for that (flat and non-warping). Lookin at anything more than 5-6' high, you always see the varying loose or tight gaps underneath, which points out my only real complaint with Hardi, it's just too darn thin, and the shadow lines are too small.
Don't tell, but I always caulk under everyboard, no matter what the siding material.
Painted some today - http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=82119.49 nice and tight; hand-driven galv spiral small-head nails into studs don't really show under primer and two coats.

7" exposure here. Blind nailed hand or gun except where impossible to do . Pre- drilled with a "Spade Point " glass or masonary drill where face nailing.
I blind nailed/screwed with 7" exposure - I think 7-1/2 might be pushing it, if you have to, use the McFeely's screws for FC siding - they pull things in really tight. (I used both where needed)
I'd probably face nail if I ever do it again, which is unlikely.
