Any suggestions on how to price Hardiplank siding – installed or labour only? What about trim such as window surrounds, water table and fascia/barge? And for anybody that may be out there in British Columbia installation costs of rainscreen for residential work.

I know one buddy of mine who prices it at $2.50 sq/ft for the hardie, $1.25 sq/ft for the plywood strip rainscreen, $70 per window w/sill and same price added per corner, $1.00 lineal ft for water table and barge boards and an upcharge of $200 for every wall with roof work/intersecting etc.
He does all right, pays his two helpers 14 and 18 an hour, doesn't need a whole lot of tools.
Thanks again for the information- if it is not too much trouble I have a few more questions- could you ask him how much he charges for Hardi-Panel with battens on both walls and gables, what he up charges if anything for higher work- 2nd or 3rd storey, what he charges for shingle wall- Hardie or cedar and finally if he supplies the fasteners and caulking or if the builder does.
Hey Tex, i know for a fact he likes doing b+b on the gables. Same pricing but it goes quick =money leader. I also know with shingles = money loser. Take the good with the bad i guess. His prices reflect ranchers and two storey homes, i am sure there would be more of an upcharge with three stories. My personal experience with shingles is it takes about twice as long as siding or b+b siding. If you are doing it for a spec builder who knows what he wants or does. I know Ken puts up shingles and then the gutter/soffit installer puts on the J bead for soffit over top of the shingles. Doing it that way he can run the shingles up wild and not be fussy as it is all covered. For me though i like the J installed and the shingles butted up to them. The builder supplies all materials for the hardie job, hardie, caulk, gun nails, flashing, trim, and an open charge account so materials can be purchased when needed.
