Unfortunately, I have witnessed the demise of all major builder’s hardware outlets in the Baltimore area – thanks in part to home centers. So now I resort to catalogues and hopefully on-line suppliers – requires good planning but all my local sources are gone. I’m looking for preferably one site that carries it all – the complete Stanley hardware line (when was the last time you saw parliment style hinges in a home center?). Additional products would be full mortise deadlocks – locksmiths sell them but at a hig mark-up even to the trade. And good old plain wood screws – Lowes sells inch and a half #12’s for $.18 a piece/4 to a bubble pack. I want box lots. Lowes doesn’t carry #14’s for example and sometimes I need plain steel, not plated. It is counter productive to buy plated and then acid dip to remove the “flash” plating. Try and find plain steel box nails #4 and 6 for example (I use them in recreating old boxes – plated is not appropriate for recreations). So are there any good, full line old time hardware stores on-line?

Ed,
Try Seven Corners Hardware at http://www.7cornershdwe.com. They are a good source for mail order tools. I can't speak to their on-line/mail order hardware selection, but their store is packed and shipping is free.
