I have several hundred square feet of maple flooring that includes a kitchen and foyer. I need a recommendation for a durable product that is perfectly clear and can be applied by a skilled amateur. How about one of the BONAKEMI products?

Most of the waterbasers that I know like Bonakemi Traffic. It doesn't yellow, it baiges or greys slightly, like all non yellow water bases. You will need to put on four coats to get any wear resistance, and then recoat heavy used areas once a year, and other areas every three years. Apply it with a 10" paint pad on your knees in a plastic paint tray. If you drag it with a stand up wand, as a beginner, you will probably end up with flow lines.
I use oil based polyurethane on all floors except white wash, then I use Glitsa. Water gives one the look, but not the wear. It just depends on your priorities. GW
