Hello fellow breaktimers”
I’m about to start laying some ash hardwood flooring down and was
wandering, Has anyone thought about using tyvec for an underlayment
Have always used felt paper and sometimes the kraft paper over that
to help slide nice so why not tyvec.
Anyway thanks for any opinions

J Giles,
I have always used red rosin or 15# felt. Legend has it the papars eliminate squeaks. Tyvec may not allow the floor to breathe.

The reason for the pky of resin or felt is to eliminate squeaks.
The way it does so is to provide a minimal slipsheet and crush layer that has some lubricant in it - asphalt on the one hand and resin on the other.
With Tyvek, you have neither, just a thin layer of plastic that has no lubricant and IMO is more likely to add noise of a different kind.
