Guys,
Any experienceadvice with installing a “true” hardwood floor (not laminated or prefinished) over a slab. What is the preferred method…using a complete underlayment of plywood or 1 x 4 screeds? Both are recommended by the Southern Pine Flooring brochure. Of course a vapor barrier will also be added. Should we go with 6 mil plastic or 30 lb. felt?
Thanks in advance.

Mike,
I found your old querry and wondered if you now know the underlayment product ?
Hi Mike,
I'm interested in doing the same thing in my basement. Our local building supply won't touch hardwood done below grade. Our basement has never been wet and is new construction with excellent drainage and waterproofing, so I'm tempted to go for it. I have access to a butternut flooring(white walnut) at a great price.
I looked at Dricore's website. They make the OSB subfloor that floats w/air space. I think before I do too much more I'm getting a humidity meter to check as it is as humid as it will ever be this week.
By the way I also have radiant in the slab. My other thought is to lay a 3/4 T&G subfloor on sleepers and go from there. I can't decide if plastic or tar paper would be good or bad, I can't see guarunteeing that ground moisture will be stopped and I'd hate to trap moisture and create mildew or mold.
Maybe you've done your project by now anyway
