Have 4-way switches always been so $$$?
I needed a 4-way switch today and was shocked to find them priced at $11.50 at HD, vs $1.37 for a 3-way.
Have they always been this expensive, or did I just pick up a “special” one by accident?

A quick search of the Web shows that a Leviton 4-way rocker switch lists for $12, but a regular toggle 4-way is $3.99. They also listed a push button 4 way switch for $59.98, so you could have paid more if you had wanted...

I'm thinkin' either HD didn't carry the 4.00 model, or they were out. Thinkin' it was likely the the former, I seem to find less and less variety of items at HD lately (but I'm sure thats already been covered to death here elsewhere).
they seem disinclined to stock items that don't "sell through" as quickly. Problem is when you need 48 items that are "popular" and 2 that aren't.
I have not used that many to look for best price or to to look at other places.
But when I used 2 from Lowes about 3 years ago they where maybe $8-9 at that time.
There are several grades of devices.
Residential - Those are the 39 cent (in bulk) receptacles and similarly priced switches. those are the ones that have backstab connections (but not all version do) and some of them don't even have screw terminals.
Then there are Spec (specification grade, not speculation). In receptacles they cost about $1.70 to $2.30 depending if they are 15 or 20 amp and if they have back clamp terminals or not.
Then there is commercial grade which I think is in the neighborhood of $5-6.
The 4-ways' that I have seen have been commercial and cost like it.
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
