This is kind of a heads up and a question for the masses here. I just recently bought a 10″ Makita sliding compound ms complete with laser etc, etc. The other day I was checking something on the bed with my framing square and found a deviation in the bed of about 1/64″ which caused the square to ‘rock’ on the bed when pushing it against the bed on the two sides. Has anyone here found a similar problem or know of any. I know lemons are produced all the time but this seems a bit strange for this caliber of saw. It came in an unopened box complete with packing and I’ve done nothing to remotely stress it to create such an issue. I guess I’ll go through the pita process of returning it for another… By the way, it came from hd. I wonder if they’ll take it back or if I’ll have to schlep it to a factory authorized repair facility.

I've been using mine out of the box for ~2 yrs. with no problems. Even after dropping it onto a paved driveway the second day that I owned it. If I wasn't comfortable with the machine, I'd return it in a heartbeat.
I've been using my Makita SCMS for almost 3 years - no problems at all - square out of the box. Maybe HD will let you exchange it for a different one rather than send this one for warranty repair.
I'd return it. That's a well-respected saw that shouldn't have a flaw like that. I would think HD would take it.
Scott.
That saw comes up in a thread like this every few months.
Hit or miss as far as getting a true fence. Return it and check the
next one before you take it home.
I'm just glad to hear this isn't a common problem. I love the saw and did a lot of research before dropping the money on it. I'm going to return this unit and hopefully not have to hassle too much getting it replaced with a good unit.
