My partner in Florida(A roofer) heard of a list that Insurance companies have of contractors they call for bids. He also heard that it was illegal. The insurance industry is self- regulated and have a huge political lobby so they get away with tons of stuff. I’m not saying that the state insurance commissioners are inept, that’s a whole other issue.
He would like to be on the list and so would I. In the winter months in CT I do sales by phone for him and back ground work on the Dodge Reports for holiday $doe. We very much want to stay legal.
Anybody know the straight skinny on this?
Best to you and yours, Chris.

I can't see why it's illegal for an insurance co. to keep a list of available contractors.
How else are they gonna get business done?
State Farm works this way, and probably others. Why not call 'em?
Don't know. Just trying to get some info.Best to you and yours, Chris.

I assume that you are talking about Home Owners insurance.
The laws that control them will differ by state.
But, in general I don't think that there is a prohibition of recommending a contractor.
But there are for REQUIRE the use of specific contractors. But my experience in a couple of minor losses is that the contractor will be there with the adjust to "help" them.
And then get (or try) their name of the check even before getting a contract.
Doing insurance work has been discussed before. Try using the advanced search for - Insurance Work - Insurance Repairs-
Also do one for -Insurance Estimates -

Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.

Thanks. I did a search before posting but found nothing about said list. I'll use your suggested terms and see if I can narrow it down from the 496 items I saw last time.Best to you and yours, Chris.

The ones that I remember where more on the lines of doing the work. Working with the client. Working with the insurance co., etc..

Here in TX I ahve seen adjusters who have brought their contractors (long story).
Many recommend contractors.

Yeah, thought so. But when my partner mentioned this "Mythical List" I thought I'd ask around.Best to you and yours, Chris.

Even if having a list were illegal (I'm thinking it's not) you could introduce yourself to 10 adjusters and one of them would keep your card.
A friend who was an auto adjuster had some really surprising stories about the inner workings of that profession. I'm sure residential stuff is the same.
Beer was created so carpenters wouldn't rule the world.
That was my thought when it was mentioned to me. But when I hear of something that sounds more myth that fact I'm compelled to get to the truth. Emailed the Nat'l Assoc. of Insurance and they said, quote, "Have not heard of same..." and suggested I ask Nat'l adjusters assoc. Will update you fellow's at this here watering hole when I get solid info.
