Heating a 2500sq. Ft. Basement
We are just about to begin a project to finish our basement. We have a 2700 sq. ft. Ranch with a full basement. We currently have a Lennox Model C33-50/60c-2F that is heating the main house level. It does a fine job for that space, but I am guessing it is not enough to heat an additional 2500 sq. ft. in the basement. What would you do?

A lot depends on your basement's exposure and the number and type of windows. If it's mostly below grade with only a few double-pane windows, the load for heating is surprisingly small compared to the upper level.
Hire somebody to do a load analysis before you size any additions to your HVAC.
What credentials should I look for in someone to do a load analysis. I am just worried that a HVAC company would try to tell me I need more than I do?
Thanks,

If you know your house construction details pretty well, there are several DIY HVAC load estimation programs on the web. Some have a big discount for a single use (usually less than 90 days) license.
For an impartial analysis it may be worthwhile to contact your power company. Many offer energy analysis services for customers free or at a very reduced price.
They are less likely to try to sell you more than you need or otherwise bias any reports. Their only common bias is toward insulation and weather sealing. A very good idea anyway and usually the most cost effective method long term.
