Gettin’ cold in Vermont. Still gotta pour a slab for the basement of the house. The slab will have radiant tubing, and will be heated with an outdoor wood fired water boiler.
Question is, if I get the boiler installed and rig a very simple and temporary manifold system, can I start running hot water through the wet concrete immediately in order to keep it from freezing? Will this help the curing? Any thoughts? I swear nothing like this was ever covered in the concrete design courses I took in college 15 years ago.

Jon,
Should work fine. Throw some blankets over it or 6"-8" straw and keep the suface temp around 70*-90*.
Don't worry if the surface gets down to 40*, but make sure it stays above 32*
have the batch plant add some calcium chloride? (I may be having a brain fart re CC, so doublecheck. CRS, ya know?) and use 1' of straw and you should be good without any extra heat.

You'll be wise to pressurize the system with water when you pour (leaks will flood the spot with water making it visible). I also have the old mind disease, but we filled with water out of a garden hose, used a hand pump / fitting to bring the pressure up to............40 lbs maybe. Watch the gauge as you pour, any drop in pressure, look for some water coming up. Best of luck.
