I want to replace a backdoor (solid core) with a new door that weighs approximately twice as much.
The existing door has 3 hinges into the jamb. On the hinge side of the wall, there is a wall of glass that runs right up to the jam.
The jam seems very weak and I don’t believe I can get any 3” screws through my hinges without hitting the glass.
Any suggestions (besides reframing the door with true king and jack studs)?

You might consider a continuous hinge such as a Roton or Select hinge.
They can be found at the architectural hardware distributors in your area. It should work nicely.
Pivot hinge at the head and threshold?
or replace the jamb with one made of 3/4 th. oak...

What kind of wall of glass? Glass block or glass held together with steel frames?
