In the most recent issue of FHB (#150) Dave Thomas, via e-mail, writes that there is a better way to cut tile by using a RotoZip tool. I purchased a Dewalt rotary cutter tool last month for tile cutting over a RotoZip. Why? 5.0 amp motor vs. a 1.3 amp motor, less cost (also maybe because yellow is my second favorite color). I used the tool to cut tile to fit around a window apron and trim below that. I tried, fairly successfully, to cut short straight lines but found that keeping the tool on track to be fairly difficult. I formed the opinion that a rotary cutter, when cutting tile, was great for intricate cuts but outside of that I feel that it is too unwieldly to use and that there is a high risk of error otherwise.
So now along comes Mr. Thomas telling me that I can cut tile “faster, more accurate and more professional[ly]” using a RotoZip.
What am I not understanding?

otherwise, you understand perfectly
Perhaps it was the need for mere mortals to use a straight-edge to guide the tool for a straight-line cut that was missing from the explanation you saw ?

Ummm, Phill, there ya go again. I have personally seen those infomercials. Not one of the people selected at random from the audience used a staight-edge on their work. They wouldn't mislead, would they? Would they?
(tongue-in-cheek, of course.)
