Hi,
My toilet is backing up and dirt is coming up into the bathtub. Collapsed sewer is my guess. Old cast iron. Is there a way to find out about where the collapse is or should I just dig and follow the line to the sewer main until I get to the problem. I’m thinking, if it takes 4 flushes to back up then the fault is approx 10 ft down the line, maybe? All help appreciated,
Mike

You can get a guy with a camera to come out and check it. Some Rent-All places may even rent the camera.
How old?
Pull the cleanout plug and send down a wire - then fire up the backhoe, ya likely gotta dig it up if over 150 YO - plus you may have plain ol clay pipe outside the house.
Also, have seen CI unused for a few years get clogged with rust flakes - root that out would work.
Thanks,
No visible clean out but found one under a brick path while digging line out. No backhoe needed. Only 12" below surface. Cleared obstruction with hose belows thingy. Cast/PVC part of the line. In the process of trying to rent sewer cam to see if there's a problem further down the line.
