Hi,
Just popped off all the floor tile in my bathroom to replace. How do I get rid of all the old ridged thin set, can I just skim it over with thin set or leveler?

What are you putting over it? What's the thinset on? OSB subfloor? Some type of overlay? cementboard? 1/4" mahogany
As a general rule I like to take it down to the subfloor and start over.
Sorry about that. I'm going to be replacing with 8 or 10" tile. The tile was over concrete slab.
Thanks,
Mike
ahI would try to scrape or chisel it down as much as I could, make sure everything is tight.I still prefer to start from a clean floor but have floated it out on occasion, mostly using a floor patch or if not to bad the thinset. recently had to use some SLC to get the floor ready for tile

I've had good luck skimming the surface with a diamond blade in a 4 1/2" grinder.
Probably not the best way to use the diamond blade, but it gets rid of it quickly without causing much "flex" to the blade.
Using a Fein shop vac held right to the guard of the grinder, I was able to fix a few 10x10 cracked tiles without any airborn dust in the room.
Good Luck,
Julian
