I have my sider ready to go for my house. We are using 8 1/4″ HardiPlank for the main body and Hardi Shingle for the gable ends. We were to use Hardie XLD trim but I have had some serious supply issues and can’t wait any longer. My Options that can be delived in the next 5 days are 1×6 rough tight knot Cedar, 5/4×6 smooth tight knot cedar, Comd 1X6 Primed Pine or 1X6 Primed Smart trim(OSB Trim).
If we used Cedar we would use a semi Transparent stain . If we used a primed product it would be creamish.
Facia is 2×10 Fir and 1X6 fir layer still to be added stained semi transparent.
Body will be Dark chocolate color with a bit lighter grayer gable ends.
The thing I like about the 5/4 cedar is the thickness 1″ Vs 3/4″.
Cost wise the 5/4″ cedar is the most by 35% but overall cost is not an issue it only works out to $400-500 and this is the house I plan on being in for a long time.
Others have told me not to go with a smooth cedar. XLD only comes smooth up here.
Help!! I need to make a decision today so I minimize further delays. I really apreaciate your views thanks.
Attached is an exterior pic of the house in PDF for reference
Thanks Brad

I like smooth cedar. I am cheap, so I would probably not use it, I might use the osb trim instead. Pine seems like junk anymore.
Thanks guys,
I just called and baught myself a lift of 12' 5/4"x6" cedar it ended up only 20% more than the as pointed out Crappy pine(I Agree). I agree with not going with crappy OSB as well. The other synthetics would have been my first choice I just could not get it here quick enough or at all, Northern British Columbia. Buying a lift I got a great deal and got enough material to do a deck in the front as well. The biggest bonus is that I can pick it up tonight.
Have a great weekend
Dude do not use the smart trim! It's hot garbage.
They say you have to paint all the cuts.
It's OSB no matter what sugar coating you put on it. Spring the exta money for the cedar at least.
Azek would be my first choice, but it's not on your list
What's wrong with me? I could ask you the exact same thing.
Trex is my choice, as per Smitties window sills. Paints like a dream.
