I’m wanting to renovate my barn and I’ve run across these sheets that I originally thought was cement board but now think is asbestos. Anyone know if asbestos was made in 4’X8′ sheets and any run ideas about cost of removal. Theres atleast 28- 1/4″ sheets to deal with and I haven’t the foggiest where to start. So I’m coming to the experts for advice. Thanks ahead of time.

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

I'm no expert on asbestos products at all - but, are you sure that the sheets are not homasote (which could be mistaken for asbestos.) I'm not sure if homasote was ever made in 1/4" thichnesses though.
I hope this is what is is for your $$$ sake, but...
Asbestos-cement panels were commonly used in both interior and exterior applications in the past, so this could be what you have.
As for cost, if it helps give a frame of reference, we were quoted a ballpark of $8-10K for the complete removal and disposal of about 20 square (2000 square feet) of asbestos shingles on a house we were considering buying.
Good luck.
*lewis - Sounds like it could be Manville board. Have a testing firm do a PLM test to be sure - it's cheap ($50-$100). Peace of mind ...Jeff
*I'm curious. $8-10K to remove and dispose of the siding. Where are you located? I have the stuff on my house and would like to get rid of it. I've been told conflicting stories. A few have called it a non-fryable material which means that its non hazardous to remove although it may not be easy to dispose of. I was quoted 1000 dollars to remove and dispose of it as an afterthought on a $15-20K job to re-side with Vinyl Shingle. Are there just a lot of guys out there that want to label it "HASMAT" or did you have the EPA or building dept. tell you that "yes this stuff is bad". Thanks
