I have to vent a gas heater through my roof with 3 inch single wall vent pipe. I plan to put it through a weatherproof vent flange. It is currently below freezing up to the mid 30’s. Can I do this without ending up with a leaky roof? Do I have to heat up the shingles before I slide the flange under them and when I try to get the tar to seal? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

I build home at all times of the year and normally I don't have a problem with the shingles. Fiberglass or asphalt need to be carefully cut and lifted in cold weather. It may be necessary to use a flat bar and take some shingles off before installing the flashing. I also use roof cement in the quart size tube and keep it in a warm area before using. I don't think you will have any trouble. Just be careful on the roof.
*Dale:Did the job on Friday. Man that 3" sheet metal pipe is a pain to snap together. I ended up putting it in a vise and beating on it with a rubber mallet to get it to snap in place. I am sure I am doing something wrong. Well whatever, I got it snapped together. There seemed to be alot more space between the hole in the flashing and the stove pipe. About a half inch in one place. I gooped it up good with the roofing cement. I sure hope it doesn't leak. Thanks for the advice.-Charlie
