Looking at attached photo there is a gap between existing stucco and the hardie corner trim (to the left of the doorbell). I want to fill that gap. The corner trim was added to finish off the hardie siding (big surprise). I’m having other stucco work done on my house, patch around 5 new windows and a 300 sq. kitchen remodel/addition, to the point where we will just sandblast the entire house and color coat it with LaHabra stucco color coat. My licensed stucco contractor says to put a wood quarter round to fill the gap and pin nail/caulk it. I’d like to get some advice here on how this type of interface is typically finished out. I don’t see why it can’t be stuccoed (scratch, brown and color coat) upto the corner moulding. He says it will crack and eventually pull away from the corner trim, if so, then the crack can be caulked/painted and I’d probably like that more than the look of a quarter round. Any advice ?
thanks

You need something resilient (ie, caulk) between the two dissimilar materials. And, in general you need a gap of about 3/16" for caulk to be effective -- less and it just lays on the surface and eventually peels off.
