Help with Florida Room Insulation
Hi All,
I’m an electrical contractor planning the installation of electric baseboard heating in a Florida Room with a pour cement floor.
I’m doing a heat loss study and the customer is rightly concerned with moisture and heat loss through the cement floor.
A carpet will be installed on this cement floor and the question is: what type of insulation or carpet pad can be installed under this carpet to insulate the room against moisture and heat loss?

1) Where? (I'm assuming this isn't Florida.)
2) How high above grade is the slab?
3) Any sort of insulation or carpet will help a lot. Hard to characterize for a "heat loss study", though. But generally the heat loss through the windows will swamp everything else, so the flooring is mainly a comfort issue vs an energy loss issue.
You probably want a foam pad designed for use over concrete, the thicker the better. (You can probably find a listed R value for some of these.) If build-up of the floor thickness isn't a problem then there are various types of insulated plywood/flakeboard panels that can be applied to the floor to improve insulation.
Thank Dan,
I check with a carpet supplier on foam padding for an R value. Good suggestion, thanks.
