Hello all!
During a home inspection I ran across a style of old aluminum siding I had not seen before.
It is 40-50 years old on a seaside cape in SE Mass. It has a textured surface resembling cedar shakes. It’s extremely thin and has a woven fibrous insulation material behind each panel….something like the precursor to modern insulated siding panels.
The insulation is in strips and appears to provide some of the rigidity for the panels.
My client was concerned that the insulation may possibly be asbestos based. I was wondering if someone here may be familiar with this older siding and what it may be composed of….or at least give me an idea before I go and spend money on a lab analysis.
Thanks in advance!

My dad had something like that when put on when our house was sided with AL in the 70's. On the front he had faux cedar panels put up, they were made of fiber glass about three feet long. I can not remember but I think there was a fiber glass blanket behind them since they were hollow, to cut down on noise in rain. I know the AL siding had rigid foam board. Take a picture if you can and post it. Missed the part about you sayin the ones you are dealing with are stamped AL, sorry.
