I am about to begin a remodeling project on an approximately 35 – 40 year old home in which I will need to match up to the existing siding materials.
What is on the home now appears to be cedar shake panels that have very defined vertical grooves and also has an insulation board backer attached to the back of it.
The exposure is 14″ to the weather and the panels are about three to four feet long ( didn’t check exact length). I am in hopes that someone may remember this product and can give me the name of the manufacturer.
Thanks for any help!!

Woody, the panels you are describing sound more like asbestos siding panels with the standard veritical lines than cedar shakes.

*Gabe - Thanks for your suggestion. The siding definitely is a cedar product -- thankfully not asbestos!! Actually as I look around these parts ( NH ), there are still several homes that have it on them and it appears as though the siding has held up very well.Woody
*Hi Woody,What's confusing me is that I can't recall any cedar panels of that size except for stuff made in the last 10 years. Certainly not 30 or 40 years ago, that I know of.Was this house resided before?Gabe
*My house was built in 1963 and had the same siding on it. I didn't like the look and tore it off 16 years ago. I'm positive that this is the original siding on this house but am not of the length of the siding pieces itself. I remember when I tore mine off that it was in three or four feet sections. I am going to remove a piece off of the house and see if there is any info on the back side. I'll let you know if I find anything out.Thanks.
*Woody, are you sure the siding is actually panels? There is an application method that uses machine-grooved #1 blue label red cedar shingles as the top layer with an underlying layer, usually of lesser quality shingle stock but could be other material, recessed up about an inch to make a prominent reveal or shadow line. The #1 shingles are R&R, can be had in wide widths, and, if you have a 14" exposure are probably at least 18" long.I'l bet if you go to a good yard (not big box) in your area, they'll know what it is and either have some in stock or can order it for you.
*My last ditch effort in times like this are tear off a piece, and if the house is 35-40 years old find a lumber yard that's been in business for 35-40 yrs and ask for the oldest guy there! Jeff
