I need some help / advice with the general lighting in my bathroom.
I’m adding a layer of DW over cracked junk plaster and I have the opportunity to cut in holes for new cans.
I’m thinking about going to CFLs for energy conservation. The biggest issue I have with ’em is the warmup time, but that doesn’t bother the wifey and she’s in there a lot more than me.
Help me confirm if my approach will work:
Currently, the bath is 8′ x 10′ with 8′ ceilings. We currently have two 6″ incandescent cans evenly spaced, with 65w BR30 bulbs with no trim installed. Wifey says that’s not enough light.
I’m now looking at putting in (4) 5″ CFL cans with the 13w bulbs. Can can be found here: http://www.usalight.com/title_24_recessed_lighting_hb5plric13eatad_c_66_p_1_pr_210.html
Bulb info found here: http://www.usalight.com/energy_saving_fluorescents_plt1335ktripletube_c_208_p_1_pr_1409.html
and then using a 5″ shower trim, found here: http://www.usalight.com/tb501wh_c_104_p_1_pr_212.html.
Anybody care to take a guess whether or not this will work? The bulb is listed as “35k”, which I assume to be 3500k. Also, this can is avaialble with a 26 watt CFL, but the lumen output is MUCH higher than the 65w BR30s.
Thanks for the help, folks.

Does she think there's not enough light by the vanity or in the room in general.
To brighten the vanity-would you be able to add a sidelite on either end? Down lighting coupled with sidelites on a diff switch does wonders for shaving and well blended makeup.
Not that she needs any of that.
And lets not forget the new LED cans available. You can even get retrofits for older can housings. Not sure but assume that produces a much whiter light than reg incand. floods.

The vanity lighting is fine. This is just general lighting that needs improvement. LEDs are far too expensive.
Now I've found these 6" retrofit LED bulbs that use existing 6" cans. Link here: http://www.usalight.com/led_recessed_led_retrofit_green_products_lr63500_c_296_p_1_pr_1447.htmlThey're $90 each, but the 5" CFL cans I'm looking at are near $50 each installed. Cans are cheap, and I have several 6" sitting around that I could use. Now I'm intrigued...
Now I'm intrigued...
Then my work here is done.

One thing to think about is rope light under the toe kicks connected to an occupancy sensor as a night light. That is usually all the light you need for the 3AM pit stop.
