Hat in hand, Looking for some suggestions. I have an existing 1950’s house that at some point was chopped into 4 apartments. 2 of the bathrooms have windows in the shower/tub surround, and the gem of a remodeler left the wood sill, trim, etc… around the inside of the window and they have rotted away (yes, pulling fistfulls of sill is easy demo…no prybar needed!!). The windows themselves have been replaced at some point with middle-of-the-road vinyl double hungs. I intend to rip out the cheesy plastic tub surrounds and greenboard along with the rotted trim, and replace with 4X4 ceramic tile (over durock or hardibacker). I’m thinking of taking my tile right up (w/countertop edge tiles maybe?)to the vinyl window. I’d have a bead of acryl/latex caulk between vinyl and tile. I may end up w/ some funky angles, but my main concern is #1)the shower lasts at least as long as my mortgage and #2) that I don’t incur any future water damage in the wall. Assuming I slope the tiles in horizontal sill area, so shower water can’t pool up, will this be OK? Any alternative suggestions? Thanks.
