Help with vertical wood siding and vented rain screen
Hi, I am interested in building a double stud garage / Second floor Mother in law suite.
To match existing buildings , I want to use T&G rough cut Spruce vertical cladding .
How does one make sure an adequate vented rain screen is properly designed with horizontal furring?
Thanks for your assistance .

Install thin battens like 1/2” ply or similar on the vertical. Follow that with horizontal battens applied to the vertical to create a drain plane behind horizontal battens. Or install a rain screen fabric type of material w/ no battens.
Makes perfect sense . Thanks for you knowledgeable advice .
We rip 2” strips of T-111 siding the 4’ way. Nail over WRB with the grooves against WRB. I wrap the top and bottom strips with insect screen. I use plywood around window and door openings under WRB. I can screw 6 sheets together and cut them with the track saw at one time.
Thanks , that sounds good

I've done the T-1-11, using the kind with 4" OC groves. Worked really well. I was able to get it cheap by buying damaged sheets. You're going to cut into 2" strips anyway.
