Was at my gym yesterday AM where an outfit was engaged in replacing the large flat roof. (I’d guess we’re talking on the order of 100,000 square feet.) Anyway, they were stripping off the old roofing. Watching through the windows as I rode an exercise bike I saw them pull off forklift load after forklift load of styrofoam sheets, 4×8 by maybe 2″, all headed for the dumpster. There were a few stains here and there, and some were broken, but for the most part they looked remarkably clean — no tar, no serious damage. They also pulled a bunch of what looked like tile backer board — probably used for sheathing above the corrugated metal base. These also looked to be in mostly good condition.
Anyway, someone looking for large amounts of cheap (free) foam insulation (and maybe the “backer board” stuff that could be used as wall sheathing) should cozy up to an outfit that does commercial roofing. I can’t believe that the stuff is cheap to dispose of, and I see no evidence that they’re reusing it (they have several semi-loads of new foam stacked around the place, plus I’ve seen dumpsters piled high with foam leaving). So so long as you didn’t get in their way or make a mess I’d think they’d be happy to have someone salvage it.
(On a slightly different note, that roof vac was awesome! Trailer-mounted suction pump/generator with a sort of crane supporting a cyclone filter, suspending it over a dump truck. Sucks the gravel right up.)
(Could use that to clean out my car!)

been there, done that - many big outfits you JUST ASKING means you are in their way......
Around here, dump fees are based on weight, so nearly no cost to dump dry foam.
PS: 2-1/2 acre roof for a gym, or is it a small stadium ?
Of course, the roof on the 777 final assy building is over 40 ac.
It's two basketball courts, 3 tennis courts, and a workout floor. And a swimming pool.
