I’m looking to purchase a lathe so that we can begin producing our own knew posts designs in house and was wondering what you other stair builders are using. Most commercial lathes that I see that you can buy off the shelf are limited to 34″ or 36″ capacities between head and tail stocks which wont hndle most of the newels sizes we need so I was wondering what do you all do? Do you modify the beds to lengthen them (not a problem here since we we do our own metal work). What are the good commercial models that come with longer beds? Also what about the Horsepower, what do you prefer? What other features do you think I should look at from a stairbuilders point of view too?
