HO bought me a 15.5 gauge HF angled finish nailer. I changed the air coupler and test fired it today. It sparks at the safety tip. Wierd or Normal?
Is this a break-in issue?

It sparks at the safety tip. Wierd or Normal?
Wierd -- and dangerous enough that I'd go get my money back. Most jobsites, and most shops, have at least a little sawdust hanging around, just waiting for a spark.
Unless you're the lead dog, the view just never changes.
I don't think my job site will ever be anywhere close to a grain elevator.

Although grain dust is almost explosive, wood dust is nothing to discount. It can, and has ignited from a spark.
And if you have a new nail gun that sparks, you should return it. Plain and simple, no jokes intended.

15-1/2 gage? Can't say that I ever heard of that. I have a 15 and a 16.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
Where do you buy 15.5 gauge nails??Justin Fink - FHB Editorial
He's correct it's a 15 guage. They have the nails at the local HF. $5.99 for 1.25" nails and $7.99 for 2". That's 1000 nails per box. It looks like they are glued together with a clear adhesive. They are slanted at 32 degrees. Will other manufacturers fit? Probably I'll never use up the first 2000 nails.
Sorry, sorry, ... sorry
Not trusting HF quality, we bought the two year take it back to the store for a another one warranty, $12.50. So if it quits shooting nails, it's getting traded in.

I've never noticed it in my finish nailers, but I never looked. FWIW, every single framing gun I've ever bought (maybe a dozen) sparked through the first case of nails or so until it broke in. I don't think I'd think too much about it.
Ever have a house explode from having the sparks around sawdust?

Not lately. First one was a few years back and I promised my insurance company I'd be more careful. Second one had them aggravated a bit. That sawdust can be a real b1tch. Now I only buy used guns. Keeps the explosions down and the insurance company happy. I think I'm due though. Will post pics.

My Paslodes do the same thing for the first few sticks--never seen it in a finish gun though.Jason Pharez Construction
