Hello to all the Breaktime regulars. I have been surfing past this interactive coffee break for a while and thought I better jump in and say hello.
This is the forum I’ve been looking for! Well-organized with a wealth of information. It’s a great asset for a young carpenter (like me) seeking opinions and advice from more experienced builders.
I have been building timber frames for about 5 years now, and am about to try my hand at whole-house construction. I’m really looking forward to the challenge, and hope that I can pick your brains thoughout the process.
Cheers,
Brock

Welcome Brock,
I'm new to this forum also..broke in last week with questions about my workshop I'm building. Youre craft is interesting...I spent 4 years building a timber framed barn...3 stories high..45' x 36 3bay 4 bent. Cut down and milled about 75 trees off our lot and brought all the timber into town on a hay wagon....I lived in a cul-de-sac and my neighbors thought we were nuts...but they like to watch the bents go together...I ended up moving and the barn is now 95% complete and stored in the woods off the ground and under tarps...kind of makes me sick but I had no choice..
we should talk sometime..

First thing you gotta do(after you fill in your profile, that is) is post a request in the Access to the Woodshed Tavern thread so you can see the whole message board.
(Hey guys, maybe I shouldn't have told him that so soon??)
Then you gotta go to Riverfest Attendees
and read up on Riverfest and get your reservations made before Calvin runs outta floor....
Lessee...what else?? Nooooo, I'll wait some on the advised 'IGNORE' list, LOL....
I am not usually this bad; I've just been fighting with this computer for three days and am punch drunk.
Welcome to BT, Brock. Lots of good info here; lots of laughs too, once you get to know the gang. Jump in and start swimming....

Your friend had more friends than he may know.; )I have seen the complete quote as a tagline on an art forum, and a security forum...

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming

If you've been timber framing for 5 years, you can probably teach some of us old timers a thing or 2.
I'm a stick builder, myself, although I do mostly finish carpentry now.
Hello!!
Sheesh! You guys sure are on top of the greenhorns. Thanks for being so gentle.... I was a little nervous at first but I did manage to get a little info in my profile.
Thanks for the advice, I'll surf through the recommended locations.

Welcome from a fellow BC'er.Burnaby to be precise. I've done timber, log, hybrid, stick, feel free to ask anything. Have fun and if it says (pol), it doesn't mean police.
(Been in to most of the PG mills too,in another career/life mid 80's to 92.)"If 'tis to be,'twil be done by me."
I've done that a few times, but I'm more likely to wake up with a jerk.A girl a once knew complained to her mother that she kept dozing off and waking up with a jerk. Her mother said sweetly, " Well, you know dear, there's a way to make sure that you don't wake up with a jerk?""What's that, Mom?""Don't fall asleep with him"
