I am building a deck with ACQ treated frame and IPE decking. I have been looking at the different hidden deck clips and I’m surprised at how expensive they are.
Has anyone used the IPE Clip or similar? It looks pretty slick, but I would like to hear from someone that has actually used them. At +- $100 / 100 square foot that pretty steep and I have 980 sqft of deck.
Thanks

I bought some of those hidden deck clips once. Never got around to using them, and now I can't find 'em.
(Sorry - I'm really just bumping the thread)
You must of hid them somewhere.

We just finished 1000 sq ft of Ipe on ACQ using Deckmaster stainless brackets. The deckmaster screws to the side of the joist, then you send a couple screws through the bracket into the bottom of the Ipe. Expensive setup, but was wicked strong and did a great job of letting us straighten out some of the wacky pieces. We also put a bead of exterior con ad under the Ipe, to help waterproof the top of the joist, cover the stainless so it wasn't seen between boards, and ensure there was no movement/sqeaks.
The deck is the bomb. Solid and really good looking. We did a bunch of cladding with Ipe as well and used plugs. The deckmaster was faster than plugging, but goes slower than face fastening for sure.
Thanks for the reply. Wow, very expensive. I calculate I need 4 contractor packs or more than $2k. I think screw and plugs is looking better. Any experience with the IPE clips that fit in a slot cut in the side of the board and screw through a disk into the joist?
Thanks John
I think we spent ~5,000 on stainless including the deckmaster. Plugging is cheaper, although really time intensive too. The boys went through 5 or 6 plug cutters on the limited (less than 175 sq feet) of plugging we did. And the cutters were deforming, and cutting plugs that weren't sized consistently.
Company I worked for custom made some SS "biscuits." Worked well, all the clients loved the hidden look. Obviously, it's an expensive way to go (SS and custom to boot), but effective and simple. I have no experience with those Ebtys or other manufactured products, but I'm pretty sure if you can figure out how to search, you'll see some comments on them.
can u get under the deck?lengths of aluminum angle iron or painted iron screwes to the joist the
screwed to the deck from underneath..do the deck in sections with a helper and screw it from the backside
installing 10 boards at a time..
I saw some guys on a job installing those biscut clips in Ipe...they were frustrated by the dulling of the biscut joiners blade after a days work..so, keep that in mind.
Ipe is obnoxious on blades.

Rip some ipe to 1x1 and attach to the sides of the joists. Drill holes where needed and drive screws up in to the underside of the decking. Attached is the cedar version.
