I’ve seen some shelves that look like they are coming straight out of the wall with no brackets at all. Anyone know how those are mounted and where I can get some hidden brackets like that?

Try Rockler.com...
I didn't see anything on Rockler. Do you have a part number?
No, I'm at work & the cat. is home - just that they have pretty much any kind of hardware for woodworking, home imp., etc.
I knew somebody who really know something would be along...8>)
The shelves are either built as a torsion box or use hardware from a company like Hafele that's a pin that screws into the wall, while the other side has an asymmetrical thingy that fits into a slot in the wooden shelf. But I like this concept for a a floating bookshelf: View ImageThat'd look cool with books stacked on it.

Just what I'm looking for. Thanks guys!
For lightweight shelves there's also a scheme that involves a sort of odd-shaped cup hook you screw into the back of the shelf. Then drill two small holes in the wall AWAY from any studs, etc, and slide the wires of the hooks in. They have an L-shaped profile that then locks the shelf to the wall.
