Talking to a sales dude about some laminate for kitchen counter tops.
I ask for 1-5×12 ft sheet and 2-4×8 sheets, He said they 4×8’s were a premium price as they had to cut them and there was waste.
So please tell me Formanites! I always thought 4×8 was a stock size and 5×12 came later for the seamless look. So is all laminate 5×12 now the standard? Or was there some leg pulling going on?
Appreciate the info from the guys that know.

I guess it might depend on the manufacturer, but every time I've needed some, both sizes of sheets were available. And where I go, I pay by the square foot, regardless of sheet size.
But I'm sure that different dealers have different pricing.....
Exactly as the previous answer.

I've seen a SoCal distributor cut down sheets, but they usually just tell you what they have available and you buy from that and pay for it. As for a premium, That's B.S. The most common sixes that are stocked are 3x8,10,12; 4x8,10,12; and 5x8,10,12. 30" sheets are cut from 5' wide sheets in their warehouse
The other thing to keep in mind that sometimes batch lots will be slightly different ad it can turn your job into a nightmare. I usually try to avoid that by purchasing all the same sheet sizes. A drawback to this can be same size sheets and different lots.

Depends on your supplier. I haven't bought Formica in quite a while, but I used to be able to buy a 3' x 5' sheet, or other sizes, and pay the same sq/ ft. price as the bigger sheets.
Thanks for your input.
Didn't think that was an issue, so I guess I will be a bit leery of the story.
Now my leg dosen't feel that pulling.
