In Lowes yesterday, needed a little JC for a repair. Saw a display of “DAP High Performance JC” in a square bucket. The label said the bucket was square so you didn’t need a mud pan. And it goes on pink and dries white. Three gallons. I didn’t read the label to see why they called it high performance.
Price was $19 and change. Holy cow. That’s like 3 times what a box of mud costs, and 2 times the cost of a bucket of SR brand all purpose.

Sounds like a marketing gimmick directed at the DIY crowd.
They got me with the ceiling paint that goes on pink and dries white.
Once.

We were working seperate jobs and my brother asks me to pick up some ceiling paint while I am at Lowes. I grab a gallon in a rush. I get a frantic call as to why in the hell I bought a light purple. He then reads the can and realizes what happened. I was oblivious. He was irritated. I guess I deserved it lol. DanT
You have to remember you don't need a stainless steel mud pan ($24.00), you don't have mix it ($10.00 time spent), The cost of the technology to turn JC from pink to white (at least $ 1/2 million) or the genius to figure out some people will buy any gimmick if its new.
Speaking as a non pro, one way make taping easier for amatuers is to tint the JC with a SMALL amount of food coloring; chose a color that will cover easily, like yelow.
