Hello All,
I’m wondering if there is such a thing as a solder for copper that requires a higher temp to melt than what is used for potable water systems?
Like what do they use to solder the copper gutters and flashing and such?
Does not need to be for potable water.
Thanks,

Oh - come on... admit it... Your building a still...
no we're making 'art' that involves a dirty low temp propane flame. The problem is, is that the propane flame still gets hot enough to melt the standard plumbing solder that we are using.
I need something that will melt at MAPP gas temps.

We typically use 50/50 tin/lead solder for gutter/roofing work.
60/40 and 70/30 tin/lead is also somewhat available. Tin has a higher melting temp than lead so the higher the tin content, the higher the melting temp. We typically use 60/40 for lead rich material such as lead coated copper.
BTW, I've been keeping up with your blog. Haven't checked it for a week or two. I'll stop by later.

Come on guys. If you're Festing, it's time to pay up. $85.00? Half of you have already wasted that much on beer and p0rn this week already.
So as not to confuse folks, think you have the metals backwards.
first google hit on "tin-lead eutectic"

and real hot.

.. . . . . . . .
Looks like the silver solder is the way to go according to these guys

You can get easy flow 50% silver solder that melts at 681 deg C which is like 3 times what standard plumbing solder melts at. Hmm that should withstand that dirty propane flame right?
Dang I don't actually know how hot a dirty propane flame is....to the interweb!

go with 5, 10 or 15% avaiable at all HVAC wholesale outlets and welding supply houses...
you will find a vatrity of fluxes there to go with that...
high 800's to 1200 plus degrees depending on the tip and gas mix...

You could use brazing rod, like the HVAC guys use. Needs an acetelyne torch to melt it, tho'. (Dunno -- maybe a MAPP gas torch would work?)

Go to Stan Rubinstein associates website. They have information and any type of silver solder you need. Most orders received in less than a week.
