Hello all,
WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR:
I am looking for blank 4×4 brass or steel hinge plates for a residential door, or, a company that will match old hinges.
Anyone know where I could get them or have this done?
WHY I AM LOOKING FOR THEM:
I am working on adjusting an old door for a customer and I
need new hinges because the old ones have way too much play
in them; however, as we know, the holes on a new hinge will
not match the old ones. I know I could fill the old holes,
put in patching blocks, etc., etc., etc., but as is typical
with older doors there is an interlocking weather strip,
and I’m trying to keep it all intact if at all possible.
Thanks for your input.

One of the widest selections of hinges that I've seen is in the catalog of Van Dykes.
I think that the website is.....

Is the only problem with a another hinge in the same size that the holes won't match up. It sounds like you are going to a lot of trouble to avoid gluing a wood sliver into the original hole and drilling new pilot hole locations with a self centering pilot bit.

you will find a phone number for John Eaton. I know him personally and he is a very helpful conscientious guy.
If you want the style to match exactly it might be worth reaming the bores 1/16" oversize and making up some new pins out of hardened drill rod. The only complication would be getting the finial, ball or whatever cap the pin has mounted on the drill rod.
