It may be too late for this house, however here’s the dilemma. Framing a house with approx. 40+ ft 18″ LVL hip rafters. The common rafter is 32’…cut from 12″ LVL’s and all jack rafters under 28′ are cut from 2×12 hem-fir. For obvious reasons, the cuts have to match up on the top side. Is there some easy way out inside of the house for my cathedral areas? How do I account for the differences in stock in my ceiling. I always end up firring out with ledger board and such before strapping. Is there anything else I can do speed up or simplify the drywall prep?

DP, sounds like quite a house. Why not rip some 5/8" ply and nail to the underside of the hem-fir rafters, before the strapping goes up? Seems like the fastest way to me.
BTW, where are you in MA? I'm in the Boston area--
