I went to buy the new non-slider 12″ Bosch miter saw when I saw the new Hitachi with the digital angle readout and the laser guide. I began to question my choice on the Bosch because I seem to recall that the older Hitachi saws have a strong following. I have not seen any reviews or comments on this saw yet. Has anyone used it? How does it compare? Is the digital readout a gimmick or is it accurate?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi there,
I have a bosch 12" slider, but looked at the hitachi saws before buying mine a couple of weeks ago. I did not consider the hitachi further because I felt that this digital feature is just something that could either break and render a saw useless or a feature that is like a lazer guide (looks good on the shelf but somewhat useless in real life).
I also felt that having a digital display of my miter angle would be no more useful than having a good conventional readout. Most of my cutting is to preset angle such as 90, 45, 22.5. The only time I would really make use of a digital display is when i'm duplicating a rare angle. And this is never the case. Usually when I'm cutting a rare angle, I don't actually know what the angle measure (I'm transfering the angle from a sliding bevel square) and would only cut it once.
This was my thought process based on my work conditions (higher end custom cabinetry and finish carpentry).
