I've got it and there's not a whole lot of difference between them.
Is there a tool you don't have now or haven't had in the past?
I'm jealous. I think you should change your name to toolpig. LOL! At this rate I'll never catch up.
Headstrong, I'll take on anyone!
Naw not really. You gotta remember that I'm usually buying tools for 5 or 6 guys and not just myself, like a lot of you guys. So we go through more tools.... but I also get to try out lots of new things. That..... and the fact the I'm a tool whore.View Image
I own both and most of the time I reach for the Paslode. I bought the full round head nailer when it first came out for those times I need to satisfy full round head fastener requirements. Had issues with the gun not setting the nails three-fourths of the time, and the gas cartridges leaking. I complained about this to the Hitachi rep at the last tool show in May, and he swapped out my old gun for a new one and told me that the cartridge issues had been resolved. The new gun seems to sink in all of the nails now. My only wish now is that Hitachi go to the same type of keeper for the cartridge head as does the Paslode so the heads don't rattle around in the case. By the way I called Paslode regarding their Round-drive nails to see if my framer would shoot them, and they sent me a parts kit to do a conversion, and at no charge. They even paid for the shipping.
Are nails and cartridges interchangeable or are they each proprietary?

I've been able to use my Paslode gas cartridges in the Hitachi, but haven't tried it the other way. The Hitachi rep says their interchangeable. The Hitachi cordless full round head nailer takes whatever brand you have for your pneumatic stick nailers. I buy whatever's on sale so long as they're hot dipped galvanized. As for the Paslode, their roundrive nails are proprietary; the heads are round but the head's offset to one side. I have to say that I haven't fired off any of the roundrives yet in my Paslode; gotta use up the boxes of clipheads I have on hand before I buy any roundheads.
What's involved in the conversion? I was under the assumption that the Roundrive nails were supposed to work with the gun as-is. I've driven a fair number of them through mine, but had an occasional double-fire or jam. Would the conversion take care of that?

The conversion kit is called a IMCT Roundrive Update Kit. Paslode Part No. 219252.It contains a new nose wear plate, retainer ring, and screws, along with instructions. The Paslode tech said I have an older model Cordless Framer, probably a 2001 model, so I needed the update kit to shoot both the roundrives and the clip heads. If you call them, be sure that you have the model and serial numbers. Conbtact them at http://paslode.custhelp.com
or call 1-800-222-6990
Thanks.
I got mine in 2005, so it's probably all set. When I get it back from my dad, I'll check it out, though.

TPguy,
The Hitachi gas cells will cost you $1 more each when buying them in the dual packs. I haven't seen a "6-Pack" like Paslode once sold....
The issue I have with the framer Paslode is with their quality control. I've had two brand new framers. The first one had one of the harden screws break off. They allow the depth guage to be quickly moved. The top one was overtightened and broke lose. The second one came with a lose black washer that fell out on the floor the first time I used it. It caused the safety nose not to release so it could gas and fire when a new strip of nails was added. Up to six bangs/hard bumps to get it to fire. Both Paslode's had problems with firing 3"X .131 ring nails. The fine print in the manual says not to use those nails on pressure treated lumber...Talked to Paslode by email, and got a blah answer..twice!! It seems that Paslode's framer is for "Kiln Dried" lumber as I was told....
Even when regular wall stud lumber got wet, both Paslodes sounded as if they had misfired and both the ringed nails and the 3-1/4" X .131, galv. wouldn't set the head below the surface. All the nails stopped with 3/8"-1/2" sticking out. That's a lot of going back with a hammer and driving them down!!!
I saw that Lowes is "Non Stocking" the 6-pack gas cells and are not stocking them anymore. But, even though they are Non Stock, they haven't changed the price here in Texas....yet.

got one last summer after reading the review and they had a special offer. Works great. Terrific recovery; consistent; and probably a lot like the Paslode in all those areas!! Make sure there is some one in your area who can work on them if needed and you don't do the maintenance!!
