On the hockey puck sized lv halogens, does anyone know what the standard clearance for them is?
I’m planning on installing some above a shelf with books. Don’t know how hot the lv’s get, but don’t really wanna set the books on fire.

As I type, I look up and see that my wife or maybe myself put some books up to 2" below the face of one of them, and it is right where the edge of the lens would meet vertically. No fires yet but I'll give you a heat report in a few minutes.
this seems a tad close for my taste in general.
about twenty minutes and the book is surprisingly unhot. I can hold my hand at the same level directly under it indefinitely at the same distance. Feels a little warmer than the sun would in an equatorial place.
Hate the darn things surface mounted a few for a customer, calls me back a year later to remove because he had to remove a cabinet to open the wall up. Cabinets were a light Maple, when we removed the pucks found BURN rings on the bottom of the cabinets!! We have not surface mounted since then. We have noticed that the Xenon lamps run a lot cooler than the Halogens and would strongly suggest using them.
Are the Xenon lights the oval ones?
The last pucks I installed were a set of 5, 10watt'ers. I think the 3 pack comes with 20 watt or so.
