Did I miss any new hold down requirement in the IRC???
I want to double check to make sure I didn’t overlook it.
Situation: Replacing existing 4×4 post to support porch roof from porch deck. The old post were simply tow nailed in place to the porch deck. This is not in my comfort zone to protect against wind up-lift. I know I can use simpson post base on the bottom and a post to beam connector at the top, but I wasn’t sure if the IRC changed things so that it is now requires a hold down at the post base. Also, this is on the East coat and not an area with sismic activity. Although the job is not on the coast, hurricanes and high wind conditions are a real possibility.
Thanks for your input.

Sorry Jake
I'm not under the IRC yet.
A call to inspection might answer your question.
Look at the Simpson Strong Tie catalog to get some ideas.

You really need to transfer that uplift load all the way down to the foundation. The right answer will come from an engineer but as long as you are making a continuous assembly, buying bigger clips than you need is cheaper than hiring an engineer. Just remember this is a chain and only as strong as the weakest link.
I know the BI would give it a hard look here, and the anchoring would likely require an engineer's stamp.
