I was chagrined to run across the following on the internet:
Argh! Top 10 Biggest Consumer Gripes
Complaints about home-improvement contractors, car sellers, and car repair shops top the list of consumer complaints, according to a nationwide survey conducted by the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators and the Consumer Federation of America. And right on the heels of these three are complaints about cell phone contracts and solicitations. This appears to be part of a cluster of complaints about telecommunications services that also includes cable and satellite TV and landline telephones, reports Knight-Ridder Newspapers. “People are so confused by their billing,” said Elizabeth Owen, executive director of the consumer administrators group.
The top 10 consumer headaches with the worst leading the list:
1. Home improvements, mainly bad workmanship and not living up to contracts.
2. Automobile sales of new and used cars, including problems with warranties, advertising, financing, and undisclosed mechanical problems.
3. Automobile repairs, mainly faulty repairs, cost overruns, and “ghost” repairs.
4. Credit, particularly excessive interest and fees and predatory lending.
5. Telecommunications, mainly disputes about contracts, solicitations, and undisclosed charges.
6. Collections and billing, especially unscrupulous debt collection tactics or inaccurate records.
7. Identity theft and deceptive practices, especially those using phony e-mails and Web sites.
8. Internet-related issues, mainly e-commerce and scams.
9. Major purchases of household goods, especially defective goods and dishonored warranties.
10. Telemarketing and advertising sales practices, mainly deceptive advertising, sales, and promotions.

I seen that on TV awhile back.
It doesn't surprise me though with most states it's pretty easy to get a specialty or general contractors lic. with average credit.
It just makes me look better as a contractor. :-)
