4' of 5/4 blasted with 16d nails every 3" (stagger 'em so you don't split the board in half), along with whatever handle you can rig.
AitchKay
1. Find old mattress.
2. Build fire and burn mattress.
3. Let springs cool off.
4. Drag through yard. All though I like Aichkay's plan better.
I use a 6 foot piece of chain link fence with a piece of angle iron wired to the leading edge. Works like a champ and no labor involved except tying a rope to it.
Your rig is a great way to drag gravel driveways with a lawn tractor to keep flat, too.
That's actually how mine started out life, dragging my 1800 foot driveway. When I moved I dug a small pond and used the dirt as fill all over my property and used it to overcome my poor grading skills. Many years ago I made one from 3, 6 foot oak logs. That thing would smooth the driveway better than a box blade.
Thanks. Will be banging nails in the AM.
Just know the BT'S would help!!As for the matteress good idea. Should I take outside first and what about the passed out drunk BIL?
The landscape rakes here are 3/8" dowels about 4" long in a longish cross piece. If using nails, you could predrill, then clamp and glue another strip across the top of the heads to keep them from backing out

I need to make one soon. I'm 800 ft off the road, and I had the part up near the house paved for the kids to skateboard, play hoop, etc, but about 650' I had done with reclaimed asphalt last year. Was great til I plowed one storm this winter when the ground wasn't frozen, and I didn't quite feather the plow up enough. Pushed most of the driveway into the woods. Needs gravel and grading now, and how. Mucho potholes....Bing
That funny! Sorry if I sound cruel.
Nope...Don't be sorry. I've been plowing long enough to know better. I didn't laugh at it, but I probly would if it were somebody elses driveway...:)Bing
I always drag a pallet with some cmu on it behind the lawnmower
I inherited some wine racks from one of my jobs.
It has 4" square hd fencing welded to a 4'x 8" frame on both sides.
I then put a 5' piece of 10" I beam on the back and tied it on letting it nearly reach the ground.
This is the best drag I have ever seen I can pull it behind my truck and smooth up my 800' driveway in a few minutes. I off set my tow lines to let the I beam divert the gravel to one side or the other.
I gave my neighbor one and he tilled his 4 acre field and then used the drag to smooth and collect the clumps of grass. It worked great he would stop every now and then to remove the built up clumps. It really smoothed the dirt and cleared all the old vegitation so that he could reseed.
I have used a bunch of factory and homemade drags and none have come close to as efficient as these are.

Build a triangle as big as you can pull out of 2x10's screwed together. Brace it and add a box toward the rear where either a kid can suck dust sittin' in it or you can use cinderblocks.
Hook a chain through the front peak and connect to your tractor/4 wheeler etc. and drag away
