Can anyone recommend a whole house exhaust fan for a 3000 sq foot home? We are looking for something quiet and efficient. Any other features we need to consider? Do any of these fans have shut-off timers? Thanks!

I can't help you with the "quite whole house fan" part of your question. All of the ones I have put in have been noisey beast, but they were all from big box stores.
You can wire any fan into a timmer type switch. Leviton makes a decent dial type time switch for both 15 and 20 amp/120 volt use. A couple of other mfg. you might look at are Pass & Seymour and Hubble. You can get them from 15 minute to 24 hour increments.

Thanks for your reply. We do have a terribly noisy fan right now, but I am sure there must be somebody who makes a quieter one. I will just have to keep looking. The timer info is definitely a help.
How is the fan mounted, is it on rubber or steel to steel or steel to wood?
To get rid of some of the noise some times it helps if you mount it on rubber isolation pads or suspend it from rubber strapping so the vibration are deaden before getting to wood.
There is an "advertorial" that makes a couple of interesting points - of course this is strictly written to push their specific product (which I know nothing about), but you might find it interesting reading

Another discussion (that has a sidebar discussing the same fan as the above article) is at:

Another fan that is advertised as "quiet" is:

(Disclaimer: I know nothing about this, I was just digging up some Internet info out of interest...)
You could probably locate some additional claims by vendors by going to Google and typing in something like "quiet whole house fan" - of course, who knows how those claims will actually pan out...
